Operation On Lathe Machine

Different Turning Operations:

(a) Facing:

                              

                           The tool cut the  work-piece on one end of the work-piece to create a flat surface.

(b) Taper Turning:

                                             The work-piece diameter is changes  from one end to the other, the piece is said to be tapered.Taper turning is the gradual reduction in diameter from one part of a cylindrical workpiece to another part.

(c) Form Turning:

                                          In this operation, sometimes called forming , the tool has a shape that is imparted to the work by plunging the tool radially into the work.

(d) Threading:

                                   A thread is a uniform helical groove cut inside of a cylindrical work-piece, or on the outside of a tube or shaft.The thread pitch is the distance between threads expressed in millimeters (measured along the length of the fastener). For example a thread pitch of 1.5 means that the distance between one thread and the next 1.5mm.

(e) Boring:

                         A  tool is fed linearly, parallel to the axis of rotation, on the inside diameter of an existing hole in the part.

(f) Drilling:

                         It can be performed on a lathe by feeding the drill into the rotating work along its axis. Reaming can be performed in a similar way.

(h) Knurling:

                                Knurling is not a machining operation because it does not involve cutting of material. This is a metal forming operation used to produce a regular crosshatched pattern in the work surface.
